The US State Department announced that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will undertake a Gulf tour that includes the United Arab Emirates, the State of Kuwait, and the Kingdom of Bahrain, starting today, Tuesday, June 23, and continuing until June 25. According to the statement obtained by “Gulf News,” Rubio will discuss during the tour a number of regional issues and files of common interest, including the memorandum of understanding related to Iran, and efforts aimed at ensuring freedom and security of navigation and safe transit through the Strait of Hormuz, in addition to stressing the importance of enhancing security and stability in the region. The US Secretary is scheduled to visit Bahrain as part of his Gulf tour, where he will hold meetings with Gulf officials, and will also participate in a meeting with the Gulf Cooperation Council to discuss common priorities, regional challenges, and ways to enhance cooperation and coordination between the United States and the Council countries. This visit comes in light of the rapid developments taking place in the region, and international efforts aimed at preserving the security of vital sea lanes and enhancing regional stability.
