Government may end export of live animals to Grenada

THE GOVERNMENT is considering ending the export of live animals from St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) to Grenada, with Agriculture Minister Israel Bruce, signalling that the country is not currently in a position to continue the practice.

Bruce spoke on the issue during NBC Radio’s “Face to Face” programme on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 following discussions he said were held with members of the Cattle Farmers and Producers Association (CFPA), about the challenges facing local livestock producers. The issue of live animal exports to Grenada was among those raised during the meeting, as farmers and producers discussed the future of the local livestock industry, and the difficulties being experienced by persons who depend on the sector for their livelihoods.

Bruce said that while he was aware of representations made by members of the CFPA regarding assurances from persons on the Grenada market and possible negotiations with local butchers, he believes the government needs to take a different approach at this stage.
