China implemented an expanded zero-tariff treatment covering all 53 African countries with which it has diplomatic ties, beginning May 1. Commending the move, Eric Dodoo-Amoo, head of China desk, Ministry of Finance, Ghana, hailed the treatment as “very transformative and very innovative”. He noted that the initiative will drive growth in Africa”s agriculture, agro-processing, and light manufacturing sectors, while developing local industrial value chains.
