SAN MARINO – The legal events involving the Giochi del Titano must be addressed by guaranteeing full collaboration with the judiciary, but for the Party of Socialists and Democrats it is necessary to go beyond the emergency and start a reflection on the organisation, controls and the future of the gaming sector.
The PSD recalls how the choice of public management, made about twenty years ago, contributed to overcoming a phase characterized by strong political conflicts linked to the sector. Over time, Giochi del Titano has grown and economic results have taken on a central role. A choice that, according to the party, “worked”, but which still needs to be verified.
The sector, underlines the PSD, maintains characteristics that require particular attention. Gambling produces significant revenues, but also presents risks related to addiction, money laundering and criminal infiltration. For this reason, after the recent news, the party deems it necessary to verify the adequacy of the legislation and the functioning of the internal controls of the company and those entrusted to the corporate bodies, the State Games Authority and the Financial Information Agency.
Another theme concerns the role of the State, which is simultaneously the owner of the Giochi del Titano, the beneficiary of the revenue and responsible for supervision. According to the PSD, this structure presents advantages but also risks, including that profitability may reduce the level of attention and that any serious events produce direct image damage for the Republic.
The party also places emphasis on the duration of leadership positions. Caronia has led the Giochi del Titano since 2009 and, while recognizing the economic results obtained, the PSD observes that “seventeen years in the same role poses a question that remains distinct from judicial findings”. The proposal is to evaluate, in the most delicate sectors, forms of rotation and limits to the duration of assignments, while at the same time guaranteeing skills and continuity.
The story, according to the PSD, also recalls the need to diversify the country’s sources of income. In this context, the Agenda for Growth is relaunched, to be linked to the opportunities of the Association Agreement, through investments and new activities capable of generating income, employment and public revenue.
In the immediate future, the party indicates business continuity, the protection of workers, the containment of risks to state revenues and full collaboration with investigators as priorities. In 2025 Giochi del Titano produced over 13.7 million euros in taxes and approximately 8.5 million euros in profits and employs over one hundred employees and collaborators.
“We need to verify the organization and controls, and reflect seriously on the future of the sector”, concludes the PSD, underlining that the response to the matter should not be limited to the replacement of a manager.
