Former Employee Arrested on Accusations of ‘Taking Out Classified Information’ From SSSG – Civil Georgia

A former employee of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG), currently working at the Interior Ministry, was arrested on accusations of “taking out classified information” from SSSG, the State Security Service reported on April 25. It was not immediately clear from the statement whether the information was leaked or disclosed to a third party.

According to the statement, the suspect was arrested through joint efforts by the general inspectorates of SSSG and the Interior Ministry. The investigation is ongoing under Article 321 of the Criminal Code, covering “breach of the procedure for keeping state secrets” and punishable by imprisonment of up to six years, depending on the gravity.

The agency did not name the former employee, but soon after the statement, the pro-government Imedi TV channel identified the suspect as Vako Bidzishvili, an official at the Interior Ministry’s Security Police.

“The State Security Service will always be particularly strict and uncompromising toward taking out any internal information, even on a minor scale, and any person who commits such an act will face the strictest punishment,” SSSG said.
