Several football administrators across the island are now better equipped to carry out their roles following their completion of a Concacaf Administration Workshop, which was staged at the BFA Technical Centre on April 11.
The workshop was attended by a combination of club and national team managers and coaches.
Director of the CONCACAF Caribbean Office, Horace Reid told Barbados TODAY that the objective was to share best practices and to empower administrators involved in national programmes, as well as top tier clubs in Barbados.
“It’s a one day event and it’s a wide range of topics including financial planning, budgeting, pre-tournament organisation, match day organisation and post-tournament activities. Ethics, integrity and safeguarding are also very important topics, so it’s a wide range of subject matters that we’ll be bringing to the discussions with the delegates,” he outlined.
Reid said smaller federations and associations around the Caribbean face a number of unique challenges.
“First of all, we have seen tremendous improvement across the football family within the region. The member associations are becoming more organised, they are more football focused, which is good news. However, we have to continue to provide them with the tools, as they go about their day to day administration of the sport.
“One of the things that for too long, for many decades we have not paid sufficient attention to is how important it is to be well organised. The plan to have strategic objectives and to just follow through on some basic fundamentals in terms of administration, to make sure that we are ticking all the right boxes as we continue to develop the players and grow the sport within the region,” Reid highlighted.
“We have seen growth across the region, both at the junior and the senior level, but we believe that there’s a lot of room for continued growth. The objective really is to make sure that all of the information that we can bring to bear on the member associations within the region, that we share those best practices with them.”
