AS Monaco appear to have already identified their next head coach, even before Sébastien Pocognoli has officially left the club. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Brazilian Filipe Luis is set to take charge at the Stade Louis II, signing a two-year contract running through to 2028.
The 40-year-old will be embarking on only his second managerial role, having previously coached Brazilian giants Flamengo from 2024 until March 2026. His tenure in Rio proved highly successful, with Luis guiding the club to the Brazilian championship title and the Copa Libertadores in 2025.
The former Brazilian international, capped 44 times for his country, will be returning to European football — a continent where he spent the bulk of his playing career as a left back. He is best remembered for two spells at Atlético de Madrid (2010–2014 and 2015–2019), with a single season at Chelsea sandwiched in between (2014–2015).
Pocognoli’s departure from Monaco is yet to be made official, but the club appears to be moving swiftly to secure his replacement ahead of the new season.
