The representative of the opposition delegation at the dialogue table with the ruling party, Dinorah Figuerareaffirmed that one of the points on the agenda aims to designate the 32 new judges of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) in November.
In an interview with Venevisión, Figuera reiterated that the process considered “one of the milestones” of the negotiation table will take place in November.
“We have a deliverable of these milestones for the month of November, and I believe that we are going to honor that beginning of the goal,” said Figuera.
He stressed that simultaneously the table must advance in the discussion on the political and civil guaranteesa matter that includes return of political organizations, the annulment of disqualifications and the restoration of institutional trust for the full exercise of political rights.
The president of the 2015 National Assembly considers that the changes in the TSJ and in civil and political guarantees are essential to move towards a free and transparent electoral process in Venezuela.
“You cannot have a country with free elections if there is no institution of the Supreme Court of Justice or if there are no civil and political rights and guarantees,” he stressed.
Figuera offered his statements about the process that will lead to the election of the new judges of the TSJ after the National Assembly appointed the judges on Tuesday. 11 deputies that will integrate the Preliminary Commission of the Judicial Nominations Committee.
Parliament defined the structure of the new commission, which will be chaired by Giuseppe Alessandrellowhile Pablo Perez will occupy vice presidency. The group was made up of eight deputies from the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) and three from opposition organizations.
Subsequently, the commission must add to 12 representatives of civil societyas established in the partial reform of the Organic Law of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ).
