Havana/With “extreme violence”, Maribel Pérez Linares, 33 years old, and her partner, were murdered with a machete by the woman’s ex-partner, in Mayabeque, on June 17. The double attack represents the most recent feminicide confirmed by the Alas Tensas Observatory, this Monday, although it had been reported since the weekend on social networks.
The events occurred in the La Lima batey, municipality of Nueva Paz. Alas Tensas points out that Pérez Linares’ ex-partner attacked both of them, causing her to die on the spot and leaving her partner injured, who “later died in the hospital where he was fighting for his life.”
The communicator Niover Licea, who cites testimonies from residents of the area on his Facebook page, published a post on June 19 in which it states that the alleged aggressor had been separated from the victim for a short time and came to the place directly to attack her.
According to the publication, the young woman – mother of two minors – suffered multiple wounds “of extreme violence during the attack”, which “caused severe damage to different parts of her body”.

According to the local news page Entérate Mayabeque, the 36-year-old attacker has already been arrested and is in police custody.
Alas Tensas warned about the increase in cases recorded so far in 2026, “which increases concerns about the real number in a country that is barely connected and has blackouts of 45 hours or more.”
In addition, the NGO reported that it is investigating 12 possible femicides and five attempts dating back to 2025, as well as nine possible cases and two attempts so far this year.
With this, there are 30 femicides registered by 14ymedio in 2026. The Alas Tensas count rises to 35, since their list includes crimes against women associated with a motive other than machismo, such as the case of Yarisleidis Saavedra Hernández or that of Olimpia Pérez, a 79-year-old woman who was found dead in her home in Mayabeque, on March 2.

Furthermore, according to the registry of this medium and Alas Tensas, June has become the month with the most femicides in the year, with eight. January was left behind, which registered seven.
The most recent case had been reported on June 15. Daisi María Isaac Brito56 years old, had disappeared on May 8 in the middle of a blackout and his mutilated body was found the next day in San Francisco de Paula, in the Havana municipality of San Miguel del Padrón.
In most of the attacks confirmed by the observatory in the year, the same pattern of brutality, closeness of the aggressor to the victim and lack of institutional protection is shown.
In this regard, an analysis by typology of the femicides verified in 2025 by Alas Tensas shows that 83.3% of the murders recorded last year were carried out by the victims’ partner. “The persistence of gender violence in the area of emotional relationships is confirmed as the main risk scenario,” he indicates.

Likewise, it states that “the marked concentration of femicides of partners and ex-partners indicates that the home and intimate relationships continue to be spaces of high vulnerability, in a context where unequal power relations persist and where institutional mechanisms of prevention, protection and care are insufficient or non-existent.”
Since 2019, the year the Alas Tensas Observatory was founded, 350 femicides have been recorded in Cuba. The year with the most cases was 2023, with 90.
“This monitoring is carried out in an adverse context, marked by the precariousness of resources, the criminalization of independent activism and the absence of official public records. Documenting femicides, accompanying families, requesting information or reporting the lack of institutional protection can lead to harassment, smear campaigns or reprisals,” the organization notes.
