The European Union (EU) and the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) of Peru agreed to create a technical table – together with the European private sector – to unblock permits, transmission and energy infrastructure.
In a press release, it was reported that this space will allow for monitoring specific projects in our country and addressing the main obstacles to their development.
The measure was approved during the dialogue held by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Guillermo Shinnowith a high-level mission from the European Union.
This event also marked the launch of the Global Gateway program “Promotion of European investments in energy in Peru and SINEA”financed with 6 million euros by the European Union and Germany.
This program will be implemented by GET.transform and GET.invest through GIZ. This initiative seeks to generate better conditions for the development of renewable energy projects and mobilize European investment in the sector.
Within the framework of the launch of the program, an Act of Cooperation Intention was signed, where Sabine Bloch, Ambassador of Germany in Peru, and Katja Kammerer, Resident Director of GIZ ConoSur for Argentina, Chile and Peru, also participated.
The aforementioned program will also contribute to the integration of the region’s energy systems since it contemplates the strengthening of the Andean Electrical Interconnection System (SINEA), to take advantage of the complementarity of resources, infrastructure and energy markets of the participating countries.
Likewise, it will work in two complementary dimensions: on the one hand, improve the regulatory and institutional conditions, necessary to facilitate investment; and, on the other hand, support the identification, preparation and structuring of projects that can mobilize private financing and investment.
The Minister of Energy and Mines of Peru, the director for the Americas of the European External Action Service, the ambassador of the European Union in Peru, representatives of companies and European chambers of commerce, and ambassadors of the EU member states participated in the meeting.
Shinno Huamaní expressed the Peruvian Government’s willingness to continue generating conditions that allow attracting new investments, as well as unblocking projects and strengthening coordination to address obstacles that hinder their execution.
