With a letter from the Secretary Luca Lazzari the PSD congratulates the Maltese Labor Party: “The Party of Socialists and Democrats congratulates the Labor Party of Malta which achieved a new and significant victory in the general elections of 30 May 2026. The PL obtained 51.77% of the votes and 36 seats in Parliament, stopping as the country’s leading party, with an absolute majority in Parliament, ahead of the Partit Nazzjonalista. This is the fourth consecutive victory, confirming the excellent work carried out by Prime Minister Robert Abela, which further consolidates the trust of the Maltese people in his leadership ship and in the proposed political vision. The confirmation of the PL represents a sign of continuity and trust, but also a renewed commitment towards the determinants of this victory: sustainable economic growth, social cohesion and strengthening of Malta’s role in the international and in particular European context, in which Malta increasingly has a defined and recognizable role. Particularly notable was the very high popular participation: with a turnout of at 87.42%, the highest in European countries in recent years. An extraordinary testimony to the vitality of Maltese democracy and the strong civic awareness that characterizes the country, making the result even more significant. The PSD expresses its most sincere wishes for success and good governance to the Labor Party, its leaders and militants and takes the opportunity to congratulate and greet two Maltese colleagues who were guests of the party: the new parliamentarian John Grech, International Secretary of the PL and Minister Chris Bonett who got his fill of votes despite having dealt with one of the most challenging and often unpopular sectors of Maltese politics, transport”, concluded Lazzari.
