The playwright, writer and language academic Giovanny Cruz Durán will present his play titled “Echoes of blood”, a literary proposal that delves into the Taíno event and transforms it into a powerful dramatic plot of universal scope.
An intense theatrical experience, focused on cultural identity and historical memory, is the attractive proposal that “Ecos de sangre” promises, which will be presented from April 10 to 19, at the Ravelo room of the Eduardo Brito National Theater.
Cruz Durán is considered one of the most complete cultural figures in Dominican literature.
His career encompasses multiple facets: playwright, novelist, poet, short story writer, essayist, screenwriter, actor and theater director, consolidating a diverse and widely recognized work.
In “Ecos de sangre”, the author returns to the Taíno mythological universe, highlighting the figure of the primordial god Yucahú Bagua Maorocoti, whom he identifies as the great giver within this indigenous worldview.
From this historical and spiritual context, the work develops an intense narrative that avoids localism or simplistic folklore, to project the island’s history towards universal reflections on power, guilt and destiny.
The piece presents characters of great dramatic force such as the princess Iguanamá, the defiant Xucaba, the wise behique Guaguyona and the severe chief Ananorex, whose actions transcend the anecdotal to build a deep theater full of symbolism.
The visual proposal of “Ecos de sangre” takes care of the details. The actors will wear headdresses made by indigenous people from the Brazilian Amazon.
