Dominik Szoboszlai remains the benchmark at Liverpool FC. The captain of the Hungarian national team was voted Player of the Month for the second time in a row—and for the fifth time this season. With this, the athlete solidifies his status as an absolute key player in Arne Slot’s squad.
As the club announced on its website, Dominik Szoboszlai secured nearly two-thirds of the votes in the fan poll. He relegated notable teammates such as Mohamed Salah and Hungarian full-back Milos Kerkez, who joined the club last summer, to second and third place.
March 2026 was a month of superlatives for Szoboszlai. He played the full 90 minutes in all six of the “Reds’” competitive matches—and once again demonstrated his enormous tactical flexibility by playing both in central midfield and, at times, as a right-back.
Things got particularly emotional in the top-of-the-table clash against Tottenham Hotspur.
With his fourth direct free-kick goal of the current Premier League season, the Hungarian footballer set a new club record.
No player in the storied history of Liverpool FC has ever scored more free-kick goals in a single season. A few days later, he also shone on the international stage when he scored the crucial opening goal from a corner against Galatasaray Istanbul in the Champions League.
The award for the month of March is already Szoboszlai’s fifth trophy this season (following August, October, November, and February). This underscores his exceptional standing in a squad brimming with international-caliber talent. By comparison, top-tier teammates such as German international Florian Wirtz, Frenchman Hugo Ekitike, and Italian Federico Chiesa have each won the monthly award only once so far this season.
With this form behind him, all of Liverpool is now eagerly looking forward to the decisive phase of the season, in which Szoboszlai will undoubtedly be the key player for potential title wins.
