The Ministry of Defense (Mindef) confirmed an external computer attack that violated the portal of the General Directorate of Arms and Ammunition Control (Digecam) and led to data extraction.
Julio César Taracena, commander of the Army Communications Brigade, explained that the infiltration occurred through the portal’s website.
He indicated that the security systems delayed the intrusion, but failed to prevent the theft of data in the Digecam.
In that sense, Digecam shared useful information for users who have been affected by data theft.
“Users affected by the cyberattack are informed that, when contacted by this General Directorate, they must present themselves only with their Personal Identification Document and the affected license,” he explained.
He stressed that it is not necessary to carry or present the firearm.
It asked users to remain attentive to telephone calls, emails and other official channels, through which the corresponding information will be provided.
He announced that this General Directorate will establish direct communication with users on April 11 and 12.
Mindef stated that, after detecting the intrusion, it activated containment measures, changed credentials and reinforced security in the systems.
