Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, met on Tuesday with the US Chargé d’Affaires to Libya, Jeremy Berndt, to discuss the latest economic developments, ways to support financial stability, and enhance joint cooperation in the energy sector.
During the meeting, Dbeibah stressed the importance of a unified development framework and a unified budget, describing them as essential steps toward ending parallel spending and unifying the state’s financial track.
Dbeibah said this would help consolidate economic stability, enhance transparency, and improve the efficiency of public spending, according to a statement published on the government’s Facebook page.
He also underscored the importance of continued US support for Libyan institutions, particularly in the oil sector, which he described as the backbone of the national economy. He highlighted the need to expand partnerships with major American companies to support production development, transfer expertise, and strengthen expansion and investment plans.
The meeting also addressed the importance of building on existing economic understandings to support stability and open broader prospects for sustainable development across the country.
Earlier on Tuesday, Dbeibah also discussed with a delegation from the US energy company Chevron its operations in Libya’s oil and gas sector and ways to enhance cooperation in the energy field. This came after the company signed a second memorandum of understanding with the National Oil Corporation.
