Do we define creative thinking?
First let’s go to the thought itself.
How would you describe it?
A possibility that builds the brain from experience and future milestones. But we take it for granted and that’s where creativity gets destroyed.
What do we do to avoid falling into these automatisms?
Creativity cannot be forced, but we can create an enabling environment. The keys are honesty and trust.
Honesty?
With yourself! When I think my thought is a fact, I’m somehow lying to myself, it’s not true. We do not generate thought because it is something that emerges just as the heart pumps blood. Honesty is a gesture of empathy with oneself. By being honest, I am consistent with how I operate and open up possibilities for creativity.
And trust?
It’s something we don’t understand, we have to put it on someone. The brain uses the same neural networks to trust and to fear. Thus, in every situation in life we have to decide whether to fear or trust. Choosing to trust brings us closer to creativity.
An internal decision?
Instead of putting the agent of pain and unhappiness outside, neuroscience tells us that we have thoughts, sensations, and emotions, and depending on how we relate to them, we change our perception of reality.
For example?
I am doing the conference, for me there is nothing more important. I see a person using a cell phone and I feel unpleasant things. But do I really know what’s going on? Maybe he’s taking notes or has a family member in the hospital. In fact, this person looking at the cell phone is an empty vessel that I fill. Be honest, I don’t know the reality.
Do we think we are smarter than others?
And we forget to dialogue, to relate. What gesture can be more creative than talking to the other giving up what we think we know?
Does this make us happier?
Maybe happiness isn’t what you promised yourself, and that’s a creative gesture, because the answer is I don’t know, but I won’t get there by thinking, but by living. And here you discover that we love to think about life instead of living it.
You discovered it in a moment of darkness.
Nothing could be better for me, but I felt an emptiness that I couldn’t rationalize, and I decided to investigate myself with the tools at my disposal. That path led me to direct the INAV, without wanting it or pursuing it. Simply saying yes to creativity.
