The Dominica Amateur Basketball Association (DABA) will kick off its 2026 National Basketball Season with a formal opening event on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
The organization said via press release that the launch will take place at the Massacre Indoor Sports Complex and is scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM. Activities for the evening include an Under-23 3×3 basketball tournament alongside a prize-giving ceremony.
The opening competition is expected to feature many of the country’s most promising young athletes competing in the fast-paced 3×3 format, highlighting emerging talent within Dominica’s basketball scene. DABA said that beyond the competition itself, the tournament plays an important role in scouting and preparing players for national duty, particularly with regional events on the horizon.
The programme will also include recognition of accomplishments from the 2025 season. During the ceremony, standout teams, individual players, and key contributors to the development of the sport will be formally acknowledged for their performances and support.
Entertainment will be part of the evening’s lineup, with music provided by DJ Snow, adding to the atmosphere as DABA continues efforts to combine sport with a lively fan experience and broaden community engagement.
Looking ahead, the group says that the 2026 calendar will include multiple competitions and development-focused initiatives. These will range from grassroots programmes and training for coaches and officials to preparation activities for national teams, all designed to enhance basketball at every level across the island.
“This event marks more than just the start of a new season—it represents a renewed commitment to youth development, community engagement, and elevating the standard of basketball in Dominica,” remarked a DABA representative. “We are excited to bring together players, fans, and partners for what promises to be an unforgettable opening night.”
DABA is encouraging teams, athletes, supporters, and sponsors to attend and take part in the season’s opening event. The public is welcome to attend.
