Chief Cultural Officer Earlson Matthew has announced the continuation of activities marking Dominica’s 48th Independence anniversary, with the second Hard Kweyol Dress Friday among the highlights. Mathew is also encouraging the public to attend the West and Southwest Merged District Festival, scheduled for Saturday at the St. Luke’s Primary School in Pointe Michel.
Market Day with a Difference will also take place in Mahaut on the same day, offering another opportunity for residents to participate in the Independence celebrations.
The cultural programme continues on Sunday, October 11, 2026, when the North and Northeast Merged District Festival will be held at the
Woodford Hill Primary School. The district festivals form part of the wider programme of activities designed to showcase Dominica’s cultural heritage, community spirit, and traditions as the country approaches another Independence anniversary.
Meanwhile, National Emblems Week begins on Monday with Flag Day.
Matthew indicated that further details about the observance would be provided in a subsequent announcement.
With activities continuing throughout the Independence season, the Chief Cultural Officer is urging residents and visitors to participate and support the various events as Dominica celebrates 48 years of Independence under the theme “Our Journey, Our Legacy, Our Future.”
