Crin Antonescu, about Bolojan: It is shameless to talk about the second mandate. The party's liberal history has been reduced to

The former president of PNL, Crin Antonescumade a series of sharp statements on Sunday evening, questioning the direction of the current liberal leadership and the relationship between the main political actors of the moment.

The former Liberal leader vehemently criticized what he considers to be a debate rash and frivolous about the upcoming presidential elections, which will take place in about three years. He specified at Antenna 3 CNNin the show “Subjective with Răzvan Dumitrescu”, that both “politicians and the press have the superficiality, the frivolity and even the ridiculousness to discuss, in a situation with international and domestic dynamics, what will happen in four years”.

“It’s shameless even to discuss someone’s second term or not,” said the former leader PNL. Antonescu also mentioned that “if Mr. Bolojan has the desire to become president and to run, this is an absolutely legitimate thing”, but he warned that the time until the elections is still long: “They still have about three years left”. “That’s if they don’t get very angry to suspend Nicușor Dan as well, but they don’t have the votes,” he also declared. “The Romanians still need to live, be governed and have some rational, cerebral and efficient politicians at the head. That’s why they elected them”, concluded Crin Antonescu.

Regarding the direction in which the current PNL is heading, Antonescu spoke about a “userization” process that he considers a design assumed, not a coincidence. “There’s no way it could be a coincidence. I can’t give details or evidence, other than the people with whom Bolojan surrounded himself, certain ideas he propagates, his demagogic and slightly extremist character. It’s probably a project, I see that it’s unfolding, I see that the history of the PNL comes down to this anti-PSD“, he said, live on CNN’s Antena 3. Antonescu criticized what he perceives as ignoring the former president’s contributions Klaus Iohannisnoting: “I don’t know why Iohannis is so erased from history. However, he put on the red jacket and made a big scandal, let’s remember how he removed the government PSD of Ponta, how he refused to put one party with 46% of the votes won prime minister, how Dragnea went to prison”. “To reduce the history of PNL and aspirations to a monomaniacal fight against PSD seems harmful to me”, he emphasized.

Antonescu accused the current liberal leaders of an “advanced euphoria”, saying that “Bolojan, now, is like a large part of the PNL, in a kind of advanced euphoria. They got drunk without drinking. There are some electoral opportunities. You can get votes on this matter”. The former president of the PNL launched a harsh attack on the current leadership, addressing Ciucu and Bolojan directly: “Where were you, Ciucu and Bolojan, when the PNL was “licking doorknobs” in Cotroceni? When did you say anything, no matter how little, no matter how weak? When did you say anything?”, said the politician. He concluded by reiterating that, beyond electoral calculations, Romania needs rational politicians to govern the country in the next three years, not hasty speculations regarding the 2029 elections.
