Brussels/The European Commission (EC) announced this Thursday the disbursement of an additional 10 million euros in aid to Cuba in the face of “the continuous deterioration of the humanitarian situation” in the country, according to the Community Executive in a statement.
The funds will be directed especially to children, pregnant and lactating women, the elderly and remote communities that are especially suffering from fuel shortages and the energy crisis.
Humanitarian aid will prioritize health care, including the acquisition of medicines, emergency food assistance and nutritional treatment for children and mothers, the rehabilitation of water systems, logistical support to hard-to-reach areas and renewable energy solutions.
The funds will be directed especially to children, pregnant and lactating women, the elderly and remote communities that especially suffer from fuel shortages and the energy crisis.
This additional financing is in addition to the four million euros already approved earlier this year as a regional allocation for the Caribbean, which was mainly allocated to meet the needs of the Island, and the additional two million euros agreed in April.
The EC recalled that in 2025 it already provided assistance and mobilized almost 6 million euros for preparation for disasters such as Hurricane Melissa, which caused serious damage on the Island.
“Once again, the EU demonstrates its solidarity with the Cuban people with additional funding that will allow our partners to provide food, healthcare, drinking water and other basic needs,” said European Commissioner for Crisis Preparedness and Management, Hadja Lahbib.
