Thirteen hostages — including six children and seven women — have been freed by a Haitian gang after a deadly rampage that killed 47 people and saw more than 50 others abducted in a once-peaceful farming community outside Port-au-Prince, UNICEF confirmed.
The hostages, released late Friday in Kenscoff, included three toddlers under the age of 2, a 7-year-old child, and two teenage girls.
Yannig Dussart, UNICEF’s deputy representative in Haiti, described the release as a “rare moment of hope” but warned that the abduction highlights the “stark reminder of the scale and frequency of attacks on children across the country.”
