A few months after coming out of prison, a 48-year-old man was shot dead in Point Fortin in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The victim has been identified as Rennie Noel, of E Street, Point Fortin.
Police said that around 4.20 am, officers received a report from the Command Centre about a man lying motionless in the vicinity of a fast-food establishment.
Officers from the Point Fortin Police Station responded and found Noel lying on the ground with what appeared to be blood around his head.
Police also found four apparent spent 9mm shells and two live rounds of 9mm ammunition near his body.
Police sources said 20 years ago, Noel was accused of setting two people on fire inside a car. He had served time in prison and came out recently.
The Point Fortin Municipal Police were asked to review CCTV footage from the area as part of the investigation.
Officers assigned to Homicide Region Three, along with a district medical officer, subsequently visited the scene. Investigations are continuing.
