Myanmar Corn Industrial Association Chairman U Aye Chan Aung has called for a concerted effort to improve corn yields and develop high-demand export markets during the association’s first annual general meeting for the 2025-2028 term, held on 26 September at the UMFCCI Mingala Hall on Min Ye Kyaw Swa Road, Lanmadaw Township.
The chairman said that Myanmar’s corn output had previously exceeded three million tonnes but has since fallen to just over 2.5 million tonnes due to various factors. Corn cultivation is being expanded in the 2026 season to improve yields. Stakeholders in the corn supply chain in the northern Shan State, the main corn-growing region, need to exert concerted efforts to restore normal output levels. Of the previous three million tonnes, one million tonnes were consumed domestically, and two million tonnes were designated for export. Myanmar previously exported corn to 10 countries, which has now shrunk to just three, with Thailand the sole major market.
Executive members must work to diversify into highdemand markets. The association will hold new elections in 2028 and hopes to see greater participation from younger generations.
The Myanmar Corn Industrial Association (MCIA) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with MAX to coordinate and ensure the supply of diesel needed for corn cultivation, harvesting, and distribution to domestic and international markets.
UMFCCI President U Aye Win also gave a remark during the meeting that the Myanmar Corn Industrial Association was founded in 2019 and has remained strong and stable through both good times and challenges over its sevenplus years. He highlighted that a recent nationallevel workshop on “From Agricultural Development to National Productivity Growth” held in Nay Pyi Taw discussed strategic plans for the corn sector. Corn is an essential raw material for the domestic livestock and feed industry, and the association should coordinate export volumes with domestic consumption and submit reports to relevant ministries. He emphasized priority on domestic production.
General Secretary U Phyo Ko Ko Naing presented the annual report. Joint Treasurer U Moe Set Phyo Han also presented the 20262027 financial report, which was later approved. Auditor U Aung Kyaw Phyo presented the audit report, and decisions were made regarding changes to the responsibilities of management committee members for the 2025-2028 term. — NN/KK
