President of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ), Justice Winston Anderson, is attending the 2026 Annual Conference of the Commonwealth Magistrates and Judges Association (CMJA) in Kingston, Jamaica.
Anderson’s participation runs from Saturday, September 19 to Wednesday, September 23, with the conference itself officially getting underway on Monday, September 21, said a CCJ press release.
The gathering brings together judicial officers from across the Commonwealth to discuss developments and challenges affecting the administration of justice.
The conference opened with remarks from Jamaica’s Governor-General, Sir Patrick Linton Allen; Prime Minister Andrew Holness; Chief Justice of Jamaica Bryan Sykes, who is hosting this year’s conference; and Justice Richard Williams of The Bahamas, President of the CMJA.
Anderson also attended the keynote presentation delivered by Chief Justice Sykes, which focused discussions on current issues and emerging approaches within judicial systems across the Commonwealth.
As part of the programme, the CCJ President participated in a session titled “Data-Driven Justice: Improving Performance and Enhancing Accountability?” The discussion examined how data and technology can be used to improve judicial efficiency and transparency, while strengthening accountability and public confidence in the justice system.
He also took part in a specialist session on “Challenges to Arbitral Awards,” where participants considered developing issues surrounding arbitration and the role of courts in overseeing arbitral processes.
The annual CMJA Conference provides a forum for judges, magistrates and legal practitioners from Commonwealth countries to share experiences, exchange approaches and discuss ways of strengthening the administration of justice.
The conference also facilitates collaboration on matters related to the rule of law and the effective functioning of judicial systems across the Commonwealth.
