“Is the autonomy sufficient for the daily routine? What about the time lost in charging? Where will I have to compromise, in terms of comfort or space?” The idea of abandoning combustion cars and starting to use an electric car as a means of daily transport is still a puzzle for many people. And there are indeed some changes to the routine that should be considered, but the myths surrounding 100% electric mobility are often 100% unfounded.
In the first episode of our web series, we put skepticism to the test behind the wheel of the new Hyundai INSTERan electrical model designed from scratch for the challenges of urban life. Watch our video logbook and discover the points that surprised us most during the trip test drive.
Much More Than a City Car
Although the compact silhouette and design futuristic style with SUV inspiration make INSTER the ideal tool for dodging traffic and mastering the tightest parking spaces in Lisbon (with precious help from the rear camera and sensors), the real surprise is hidden in the cabin.
The interior space has been optimized to guarantee enormous versatility. Need to review a document or send a e-mail urgent between meetings? The passenger seat folds down completely, transforming into an authentic mobile desk. Will you be transporting bulkier equipment? The rear seats not only slide to prioritize passenger comfort, they can also be folded down, expanding the boot capacity from a competent 238 liters to an impressive 1059 liters.
The Mathematics of Fast Charging
Charging is often the biggest psychological obstacle to switching to electric mobility. However, technological developments have transformed what was once a long wait into a mere break in the routine.
At a high power direct current (DC) station, the Hyundai INSTER has the capacity to replace between 10% and 80% of its battery in just 30 minutes. In practice, as we proved in our test, it’s time to resolve a work call or drink a coffee. And the convenience extends to the vehicle’s interior: thanks to the induction charging base in the center console, the car’s cables smartphone are no longer a concern.
A New Driving Experience
With a fully customizable digital instrument panel and remarkably quiet driving, the transition proves not to be a headache, but a natural step. Technology is there to make things easier, offering a driving experience which combines environmental sustainability with pure urban convenience.
