In total, last year, 87,130 births were carried out in Portugal, more than in 2024, according to data from INE. The North was the region where the most people were born and the Madeira Region was the only one where there was a reduction. The gynecologist-obstetrician, Diogo Ayres Campos, explains to DN that the increase in babies in the North may simply have to do with “the postponement of projects due to a health crisis, such as the pandemic”.
