Few companies ban AI usage
According to a survey by the Center for European Economic Research, only a few companies in the German information and manufacturing sectors prohibit the use of generative AI applications. In the information industry, four percent of companies prohibit their employees from using it, while in the manufacturing sector it is eight percent, as the dpa news agency reports.
According to its own information, the Mannheim research institute surveyed around 1,500 companies in Germany from the two sectors mentioned in March and April of this year for an industry report.
In the information economy, 58 percent of companies specifically provided AI applications. 16 percent did not provide any applications, but explicitly allowed their use. 22 percent tolerated them.
In the manufacturing sector, 30 percent of companies specifically provided AI applications. The proportion of companies that did not provide applications but explicitly allowed their use was 23 percent, while 39 percent tolerated their use.
The use of artificial intelligence is spreading rapidly in the German economy. According to a survey published on Friday by the Munich Ifo Institute, 54.4 percent of companies now use AI software – a year ago the proportion was just under 41 percent.
The survey also makes it clear that corporations are quicker to introduce AI than medium-sized companies: According to Ifo, more than two thirds (67.2 percent) of large companies are now using AI, but only a good 47 percent of medium-sized companies and 51.2 percent of small companies.
