Bonus Prince convicted of rape, sentenced to four years in prison

The Oslo District Court also convicted him of assaulting a former girlfriend. He was also convicted of domestic violence and drug offenses.

Høiby was given a two-year restraining order against his former girlfriend and must pay hundreds of thousands of kronor in damages to the women affected, among other things.

At the same time, he was acquitted of two other rape charges.

    “Long trial”

Prosecutor Sturla Henriksbø had requested a prison sentence of seven years and seven months, but the court sentenced him to four years.

“It has been a long and demanding trial for many of those involved,” said Sturla Henriksbø on his way into Oslo District Court on Monday, according to NTB.

Høiby will appeal the two rape convictions as well as the conviction for violence in a close relationship, his lawyers told VG.

“Høiby is satisfied with the relatively extensive acquittals, but is of course not satisfied with the sentences for two rapes and violence in a close relationship. These points in the sentence will be appealed,” wrote lawyer Petar Sekulic in an email to TT on Monday afternoon.

    Ex-girlfriend relieved

Høiby’s ex-girlfriend, Nora Haukland, who was a victim of domestic violence, is, according to her lawyers, relieved by the verdict.

Abuse in close relationships is a serious problem that can be difficult to prove. Haukland is relieved, lawyers Heide Reisvang and John Christian Elden told VG.

The Norwegian royal family told NTB that it had no comment on the verdict.

29-year-old Marius Borg Høiby has been in custody since the trial began in February. Petar Sekulic requested on Monday that the district court release his client from custody. This was the third time a similar request had been submitted, but it was not granted, according to NRK .

For health reasons, Høiby did not attend the district court, but had the 128-page verdict read over a video link.

    Detained since February

Høiby was first arrested in August 2024 after police were called to an address in the Frogner district of central Oslo. His then-girlfriend was found with visible head injuries. Two former girlfriends later came forward and accused him of assault.

In total, he was charged with around 40 crimes.

Marius Borg Høiby is the son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit, from a previous relationship, and is not part of the royal family.
