A quiet night at home turned deadly for an Orange Walk family when a gunman reportedly arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire. Forty-year-old Jose Sosa Sr., better known as “Bones,” was standing on the second-floor veranda of his Baeza Alley residence shortly after one Sunday morning when police say the shooter ambushed him. The gunman, who reportedly concealed his identity beneath a black helmet, fired several shots before speeding away. Sosa died from his injuries, and police are now searching for the person responsible. Tonight, News Five’s Britney Gordon speaks with his grieving family as they demand answers and justice.

“In the early hours of Sunday morning, forty-year-old Jose Sosa was relaxing in a hammock at his residence in Baeza Alley in Orange Walk Town. Unbeknownst to him, it would very soon become the scene of his murder after he was ambushed by a gunman and shot dead. Police have more details on the incident that claimed his life.”

“On Sunday, the thirteenth day of September 2026, police responded to a shooting incident in Orange Walk. Upon their arrival, they saw that a male person had been shot. He was taken for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries. He was identified as Jose Sosa of Orange Walk. Information is that Sosa was in a hammock at a building in Orange Walk when a male person pulled up towards him and fired several shots, causing his fatal injuries. We are currently carrying out an investigation into this report. He was shot multiple times, and we believe it is drug related.”
Police knew Sosa from previous encounters, including a violent incident in 2015. He was detained after allegedly attacking several people with pieces of lumber and steel before someone shot him in the foot with a licensed shotgun. His family does not deny that he had made mistakes, but they say his past should not define him or be used to justify his murder.

Sosa was outside waiting for his son, who lived next door, to come home. The sound of gunfire sent neighbors rushing to Sosa’s aid. They contacted police and transported him to the Northern Regional Hospital, but he later died from his injuries.

Relatives describe Jose Sosa as a hardworking father who provided for his family.
