It was supposed to be a chance for a new life for the abused dog, but it ended in a bloody tragedy. American tattoo artist Karma Davis (25) paid extra for a missed dose of epilepsy medication. While she was unconscious fighting convulsions, her beloved pit bull Fayzo inexplicably attacked her, losing her lips, part of her nose and cheek.

The story of Karma Davis from the city of Peoria, Illinois, seems like something cut out of the darkest thriller. Four years ago, a young woman showed a huge heart when she adopted a pit bull named Fayzo from a shelter. She knew he had been through hell and had been abused by his previous owner, but she believed that kindness would change his nature. It worked for a long time – until the fateful day when Karma forgot to take her epilepsy medication in her morning rush.

Seconds unconscious
“I just remember being in the kitchen getting a cookie, and then I had a seizure,” Karma recalls of the moment that changed her life forever. During an epileptic attack, she falls unconscious and her body is seized by strong convulsions. It was at this defenseless moment that the dog, whose life she saved, behaved incomprehensibly aggressively.
When the young woman regained consciousness, she was disoriented and could not feel her face. However, she had no idea the devastation left after the attack. “I was trying to find my phone. I knew I had a seizure, but I was still out of it and I didn’t understand what happened to my face,” says the tattoo artist.
Shock during a video call
She learned the truth only when she managed to connect with her fiancé Trent via iPad. Sensing that something was wrong with his partner, he asked her for a video call. The image that appeared to him will haunt him for the rest of his life. On the screen he saw his fiancee with a disfigured face, blood everywhere and deep wounds.
“I started to panic. I was like, ‘Oh my God, Fayzo has eaten my face, I look like a skeleton,'” Karma describes the terrifying discovery. Trent immediately alerted the emergency services. The condition of the young woman was so serious that the doctors had to put her into artificial sleep. She lost both lips, a substantial part of her left cheek and the tip of her nose.

The return is painful
Although Karma is currently undergoing treatment at home, her road to recovery is long and full of demanding cosmetic surgeries. Despite the love she felt for the dog, it is clear to her that Fayzo cannot return to the family. “I miss him, but I definitely wouldn’t want him back. I wouldn’t feel safe at home,” concludes Karma. Today, it is traumatic for her to even look through the family album and see photos of the dog that disfigured her face instead of thanks.
