National Security and Legal Affairs Minister Rayburn Blackmoore says ongoing investigations into the illegal importation of firearms and ammunition into Dominica have been progressing, despite periods when there appeared to be little public movement on the cases.
Between 2023 and mid-2026, law enforcement authorities recovered approximately 161 firearms and 3,929 rounds of ammunition on the
island. Blackmoore said the absence of frequent public updates should not be interpreted as evidence of law enforcement involvement in the
trafficking of illegal weapons.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, the minister explained that investigators have been working quietly with international law enforcement partners to establish the origins of firearms intercepted in Dominica.
He pointed specifically to a major seizure at the island’s port in 2021, which attracted considerable media attention and public speculation.
According to Blackmoore, however, investigators continued pursuing leads behind the scenes, with international cooperation eventually
helping to identify the source of the weapons and ammunition.
Blackmoore revealed that investigators were able to trace the firearms to Orlando, Florida, in the United States. He said the individual alleged
to have supplied the weapons and ammunition was subsequently arrested and charged in Connecticut, where the person is expected to receive a custodial sentence.
The minister praised the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force and its international counterparts for their persistence and cooperation,
describing the development as a significant breakthrough in efforts to disrupt the illegal movement of firearms into Dominica.
