Jómfrúin is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and for that reason Jakob Einar Jakobsson, owner and manager, and his colleagues have organized many smaller events.
As mentioned in Morgunblaðin the other day, restaurateurs from Restaurant Møntergade in Copenhagen are expected there this weekend and will conjure up classic Danish dishes. A new stage was put into use at the beginning of the year, and the Summerjazz will be particularly ambitious in the anniversary year this year.
In addition to this, a special Jómfrú brandy has now been produced and is available for sale at the restaurant.
“When I heard from the management at Kveldúlf about making a birthday version of Brennivín with us at Jómfrúnnni, it was immediately accepted. Of course, I first came up with an idea to make a birthday beer – but that’s too mainstream for Jommuna. Snaps with the smörre should be it!,” says Jakob Einar.
He says the Vímfrú brandy is particularly successful. “It’s soft and a little sweet and it has a Christmas spirit floating over it – cloves, cinnamon and vanilla. I would pair this with, for example, pâté, roast beef and really any food that’s a bit fatty. But I also like it with coffee, for example, after dinner.
We will offer the virgin brandy for the rest of the year, at least. Poured, in a frozen glass – but served with love and respect for the birthday Virgin.”
Úlfar Þór Árdal Björnsson, head distiller at Kveldúlfi Distillery, says it is a true honor to have been able to make this anniversary edition for Jómfrún.
“In this special edition, we are following new paths in the production of brandy, where we have taken our brandy and allowed it to mature on South American Amburana wood, which lends it warm spicy notes of cinnamon, cloves and vanilla. With this, we are bringing the brandy closer to the style we see in Nordic barrel-aged akávít – and is usually paired with food at fine smørrebrød places in Denmark.
Brennivín Jómfrúinn anniversary edition is produced in a limited edition and will only be available at Jómfrúinn’s restaurants, on Lækjargatu and at Keflavík Airport.
We are very happy with the result of the liquid as well as the appearance of the bottle, which crowns this fun collaboration.”
