Cost. Metlife’s pet insurance rates are very competitive for cats and dogs.
The Healthy Pet Incentive can be helpful in lowering costs: If you’ve made no claims during the policy year, your deductible will be reduced by $50 every year when you renew, until you have no deductible. (A pet wellness claim will not count.)
Coverage. MetLife pet insurance provides 24/7 pet telehealth and coverage for prescription food and alternative therapies, including chiropractic care, acupuncture, hydrotherapy and prescribed holistic care such as herbal remedies, aromatherapy and CBD oil.
The policy’s coverage for end-of-life issues is superior, with coverage for cremation and burial and grief counseling (provided by a third party).
You’ll have to buy the optional wellness plan if you want coverage for prescription supplements and behavioral therapy.
MetLife’s pet insurance also includes distinctive coverage, like boarding fees for your pet if you’re hospitalized, the cost of advertising and reward for a lost or stolen pet and a payment (up to $500) for the cost of the pet if they go missing or are stolen and don’t return for 60 days.
Automatic policy-limit increase. If your policy limit is at least $5,000 and you have not used $1,000 or more at the end of the policy period, MetLife will automatically increase your policy limit by $500 when you renew.
MetLife sells hard-to-find exotic pet insurance for rabbits, birds, ferrets and other animals.
Family plan. MetLife has a unique Family Plan that lets you put up to three dogs or cats on one policy. They’ll share the annual coverage limit, so if one gets very sick you can use more of the coverage toward that pet. There’s also only one overall annual deductible, so you can reach your deductible faster.
