Aspirers Athletics Club continued its impressive run at the Trupial Classic on Saturday morning, adding four more gold medals to its growing tally while producing several personal best performances during the second day of competition.
The club’s athletes excelled in the field events, capturing gold medals through Delanie George in the Under-17 boys’ high jump, Khaarim John-Baptiste in the open boys’ high jump, Zidan Cornelius in the Under-13 boys’ long jump, and Khaarim John-Baptiste again in the open boys’ long jump.
Four silver medals were also secured by the Dominican contingent. Chantay Joseph finished second in the open girls’ high jump, while Khumaar John-Baptiste claimed silver in the open boys’ high jump. Jaden Joseph earned silver in the open boys’ long jump, and Zaiden Cornelius added another podium finish with a second-place result in the Under-17 boys’ javelin.
The medal haul was rounded off with two bronze medals. Omari Caesar placed third in the Under-15 boys’ long jump, while Khumaar John-Baptiste completed an outstanding competition by taking bronze in the open boys’ long jump.
In addition to the medal-winning performances, Aspirers athletes recorded three new personal bests during the morning session. Among the standout achievements was Arl Larocque, who finally surpassed the coveted 40-metre mark in the discus throw. Competing unopposed in the event, Larocque registered a personal best throw of 40.70 metres, breaking through a milestone he had long been pursuing.
The latest results build on Aspirers’ strong showing at the Trupial Classic, where the club has consistently featured among the top performers across multiple age groups and field events. The performances also reflect the continued development of several of Dominica’s promising young athletes, many of whom have enjoyed success at regional competitions this year. (Dominica News Online)
