Army engineer to use project management skills for military

ARMY engineer Lt Nikita Oresi graduated from the Datec Learning Centre with a diploma in project management, saying it will help her contribute to the development of the army.

“I believe in holistic empowerment. When we build systems that support everyone, we naturally solve issues of exclusion and internal rivalry,” she said.

“Hence, why I took the programme to enhance myself to contribute to the development of the army.”

She thanked her mother and four-year-old son Emmanuel for supporting her during her professional and educational journey.

Oresi was among the 335 students who graduated from the Datec Learning Centre on Tuesday at the Sir John Guise Stadium.

This year’s graduates were from six specialised Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and professional programmes that included advanced professional diploma in information technology, advanced diploma in server and network administration, advanced professional diploma in data analysis and data science, diploma in project management, diploma in data analysis and business intelligence and diploma in cyber security.

Her career goal is to empower herself through education to contribute to the development of the PNG Defence Force.

Datec Learning Centre general manager, Ravi Chandran said at the centre, its mission had always been clear and that was to empower Papua New Guineans with the skills, confidence and knowledge needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world. Currently, more than 2,000 students have graduated from Datec’s training programmes, contributing to Papua New Guinea’s expanding network of ICT and business professionals.

This year’s graduates reflected the increasing demand for digital skills across the country.

“You have proven that learning is not limited by age, background or circumstances.

“You have shown that with the right mindset, anything is possible,” he said.

Chandran encouraged the students to carry the values that they learnt from the centre into their communities to make an impact.

This year’s dux awardees were Arthur Ibras (Advanced Professional Diploma in Information Technology); Greddly Yawi (Advanced Professional Diploma in Server and Network Administration); Huanjamai Somera (Advanced Professional Diploma in Data Analysis and Data Science); Elthony Daple (Diploma in Project Management); John Wakip (Diploma in Data Analysis and Business Intelligence); and, Caroline Nala (Diploma in Cyber Security).

Special awards were given to three students for their performance outside of academia.

These included leadership and cultural empowerment, professionalism and punctuality, and outstanding charisma.

Papua New Guinea University of Technology pro vice-chancellor academic, Professor Garry Sali said the partnership between the university and Datec Learning Centre had been built on mutual trust and had been positive.

He said the partnership was based on student empowerment and the training undertaken by students from the centre had contributed meaningfully to national development.
