CAIRO, September 11, 2026 (WAFA) – The Arab Parliament Speaker, Mohamed Al-Yamahi, condemned on Friday the Pacific island nation Naoero for opening an embassy in Jerusalem.
The Speaker of the Arab Parliament described the step as a flagrant violation of international law and UN resolutions, a direct challenge to the international consensus on the legal and historical status of Jerusalem, and a rejected attempt to legitimize an illegal reality imposed by occupation.
He affirmed that East Jerusalem is an integral part of the Occupied Palestinian Territory and that all measures aimed at altering its legal status or historical and demographic character are null and void and have no legal effect.
He stressed that UN Security Council Resolutions 476 and 478 of 1980 reaffirmed the non-recognition of measures aimed at changing the status of Jerusalem and called on states not to establish diplomatic missions there, and that opening an embassy in occupied Jerusalem does not create any right for the occupation, change the fact that the city is Occupied Territory, or provide any legal cover for attempts to impose a fait accompli on it.
He warned that such steps encourage the occupation government to continue its policies of colonial settlement expansion, annexation, and the de-Palestinization of the city, while undermining prospects for achieving a just peace.
The Arab Parliament Speaker called on the Republic of Naoero to immediately reverse its unlawful decision and abide by UN resolutions, affirming that Jerusalem is not a subject for political bargaining and that its legal and historical status cannot be determined by unilateral decisions or diplomatic measures that contravene international law.
