Antigua GFC beat Municipal 1-0 this Saturday at the Pensativo Stadium on matchday 19 of the Clausura 2026 Tournament, in a match that began more than an hour late due to failures in the venue’s lighting towers and that could finally be played from 8:30 PM. The winning goal came in the 5th minute through Argentine Agustín Maziero, who connected with an accurate header in the heart of the area to put the colonials ahead in what would be the only goal of the match.
Antigua dominated the first half with order and took advantage of its best moment to maintain the advantage until the break. Mario Acevedo’s Reds tried to react but found in Luis Morán a solid goalkeeper who responded in the moments of greatest pressure. Municipal had its clearest chance in the 65th minute when a shot by Cristian Hernández hit the post, saving the colonials from a tie that seemed imminent.
The second half changed radically with the expulsion of José Rosales in the 54th minute after a strong tackle on Yunior Pérez’s ankle, leaving Antigua with ten men for more than 40 minutes. Despite the numerical inferiority, the colonials held on with character and Luis Morán was a figure in the 81st minute with a double save that denied the goal first to Samayoa and then to Martínez, maintaining the advantage until the final whistle.
This is how the Clausura table looks like
With this victory, Antigua GFC rises to fourth place in Clausura 2026 with 30 points, tied with Xelajú MC and just two away from the lead shared by Comunicaciones and Mixco with 32 units each. The colonials are fully involved in the fight for the title in a table where four teams are separated by just two points.
Municipal, for its part, remains with 29 points in fifth position in the Clausura after this defeat, while in the accumulated table the Reds continue to be first with 77 points. The result complicates Scarlet’s aspirations in the competition and temporarily distances them from the top positions in the short tournament.
