A roughly 10-day maintenance period on the Olkiluoto 2 reactor ended on Friday.
Annual maintenance of the Olkiluoto 1 (OL1) nuclear power reactor is scheduled to begin on Sunday, according to operator TVO.
It will be offline for an estimated 55 days and is expected to start up again in mid-June.
A roughly 10-day maintenance period on the Olkiluoto 2 reactor ended on Friday.
In a press release about the matter issued earlier this month, TVO said the extended shutdown of OL1 was “due to the implementation of several extensive work tasks and plant modifications”.
“Annual outages are a substantial effort, and their success depends on careful planning, strong competences and fluent cooperation between various organisations. They can be compared to a Grand Prix pit stop: work is prepared carefully in advance and then implemented efficiently as one team during the outage,” TVO’s electricity production SVP Marjo Mustonen said in the release.
Olkiluoto 3, Finland’s newest and Europe’s most powerful nuclear plant, is scheduled to be taken offline for its regular 18-month maintenance period in September and October, according to the company.
