Ashgabat resident Vanessa Murtazina successfully climbed Mount Elbrus via the southern route. She says the achievement required serious physical preparation, endurance, and determination.
According to Vanessa herself, who wrote to the Turkmenportal editorial team, there is very little publicly available information about Turkmen women who have conquered Elbrus. This is what prompted her to share her experience and photographs of the ascent.
The ascent took place on June 6, 2026. According to the certificate, Vanessa Murtazina conquered the summit of Elbrus, located at an altitude of 5 642 meters above sea level.
Vanessa Murtazina expressed hope that her story will be of interest to Turkmenistan’s sports community and will inspire other mountain lovers and active lifestyle enthusiasts.
Elbrus is the highest peak in Russia and Europe, located in the Caucasus region of Kabardino-Balkaria. The twin-peaked stratovolcano reaches an altitude of 5 642 meters above sea level. The southern route is considered the most popular among climbers: it is technically less challenging than the northern route, but still requires good physical fitness and acclimatization. Elbrus is one of the “Seven Summits”—the highest mountains on each continent—making it a destination for climbers from around the world.
