Ambassador: Belarus-Russia cooperation on the rise, but potential remains untapped
MINSK, 25 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia are seeing positive momentum in their cooperation across all areas, but both sides acknowledge there’s still room to do more, Belarusian Ambassador to Russia Yuri Seliverstov said at the breakout session Regional Development: Performance Assessment, Achieving Priorities and Goals, Promoting Economic Growth Potential at the 13th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia on 25 June, BelTA has learned.
“Belarus and Russia are consistently working on the joint development of their national economies. The primary task is to identify and implement promising areas of development, leverage competitive advantages, and integrate scientific, technical, industrial, and intellectual potential, as well as financial and other resources. All of this is aimed at improving the quality of life of the population, accelerating economic growth, and increasing labor productivity and employment,” said Yuri Seliverstov.
In his words, both countries have adopted key strategic documents for the near future, with special attention given to cooperation with partners. “Within the framework of the structural changes plan for the Russian economy until 2030, provisions have been made for expanding foreign economic cooperation with partners from friendly countries, primarily through the implementation of joint projects in partner states, as well as improving the domestic investment climate. A key direction of Belarus’ social and economic development program for 2026-2030 is strengthening integration as a vital tool for achieving technological sovereignty and resilience,” the ambassador said.
“We are not standing still. Bilateral trade figures are constantly growing. Last year, we reached another milestone – trade amounted to approximately $55 billion. Over the past five years alone, this indicator has increased 1.8 times. Positive dynamics can be seen in virtually every sector. At the same time, I am confident that we still have room for improvement,” Yuri Seliverstov emphasized.
