Islamic Cooperation warns of the Israeli occupation’s plans against the city of Hebron and its holy places
The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation warned of the danger of the Israeli occupation’s plans to undermine the political, historical and legal status of the city of Hebron. The most recent of which was the decision of the so-called Israeli Minister of Finance to withdraw the municipal powers in the Ibrahimi Mosque, the Old City, and its surrounding areas, and to cancel the Hebron Agreement.
The General Secretariat affirmed that Israel, the occupying power, has no sovereignty over the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including the city of Hebron and its holy sites, and all religious, historical, heritage and cultural places therein, in accordance with the relevant United Nations and UNESCO resolutions.
The General Secretariat renewed its call on the international community to assume its responsibilities towards preserving and protecting the Noble Mosque of the Patriarchs and the Old City of Hebron and its historical monuments, as they are an integral part of the land of the State of Palestine and its cultural heritage registered on the UNESCO World Human Heritage in Danger List.
