Nói Síríus has launched a new and temporary chocolate on the occasion of a unique natural event when a total solar eclipse will be visible from Iceland on August 12, 2026. It is a rare event that can be seen from the country for the first time since 1954 and has already attracted a lot of attention both domestically and abroad.
“We wanted to create a product that captures the atmosphere around this amazing event,” says Anna Fríða Gísladóttir, director of marketing at Nóa Síríus.
The chocolate is dark 70 percent chocolate with Icelandic sea salt that reflects both the deep tone of the eclipse and Icelandic nature. According to Anna Frida, the idea can be attributed to both the increasing popularity of dark chocolate and the desire to honor this unique natural phenomenon.
She adds that the chocolate is intended for a wide range of consumers.
“This is a product that appeals equally to tourists who want to take a souvenir from Iceland with them, those who are looking for a beautiful gift and all lovers of dark chocolate who want to enjoy a quality product on a unique occasion,” says Anna Fríða.

The preparation has been informative and fun
According to information from Sævar Helga Bragason, who is also known as Star Sævar, a total solar eclipse is a unique experience where the moon passes in front of the sun and completely covers it for a short time, causing the daylight to disappear temporarily and the environment to change in the blink of an eye.
“A total solar eclipse is one of the most impressive natural events that people can experience. When a total eclipse approaches, it’s as if night falls over the country for a few minutes, and it’s an experience that won’t be forgotten for a long time,” says Sævar Helgi.
To enjoy the total eclipse safely, it is important to use special total eclipse glasses, and Sævar Helgi points out that it is necessary to never look directly at the sun without such glasses, which are available at solar eclipse2026.is.
Anna Fríða says that the preparation within the company was also informative and fun.
“Sævar Helgi came to us and gave an extremely interesting and informative lecture for the staff, which was very well received. There was great interest and joy in the group, and all the staff naturally walked out with both total eclipse glasses and the new chocolate in their hands,” she says. Anna Friða adds that it has surprised many people how big this event will be. “Most people have now made arrangements for the big day.”
Expect a large number of visitors to the country
A large number of visitors to the country are expected in connection with the total eclipse, and the event will create a unique atmosphere throughout the country. A number of cruise ships will also be in the waters off Iceland and thousands of visitors will gather to experience this rare event.
The chocolate from Nóa Síríus is now available in all major stores in the country as well as in popular tourist destinations, so that both Icelanders and visitors can take part in the experience.
