A teenager was arrested after she stabbed three horses with a sharp object at the National Barrel Horse Association competition on the grounds of the South Point Casino hotel, the New York Post reports.
The incident happened around 2 in the night. The horses sustained non-life-threatening puncture wounds but were ruled out of further competition.
The teenager is charged with 12 counts of willful cruelty to animals and three counts of aggravated damage to property (over $5,000 each). The motive has not yet been made public.
After the incident, the girl was found in a nearby hotel. As a juvenile, she was taken to the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center.
The event has caused a strong indignation in horse sports and animal protection circles.
