Nicolás Tribaldos, a 27-year-old young man who lives in Panama, was injured in the collision between trains that occurred in Spain, where he was visiting, the newspaper highlighted. The Country.
Tribaldos was traveling in car number five of the AVE high-speed train and reported that, after the impactwas thrown several meters into the convoy.
According to reports, at least 68 people died and dozens were injured in Toledo this Wednesday, October 28, when a high-speed train collided with another about 150 kilometers south of Madrid.
“I can say with certainty that the train did not try to stop, it was a sharp blow,” Tribaldos told The Country when describing the moment of the accident.
The young man explained that, due to the force of the impact, he ended up hitting a table and suffered severe bruises to his chest. Despite his injuries, he expressed gratitude for having survived the accident.
“With the impact I was thrown several meters. I hit a table and now I have severe bruises on my chest, but I am grateful to be alive,” he emotionally told the Spanish newspaper.
Tribaldos managed to leave the car after breaking one of the windows. According to his testimony, the level of destruction was different between the train cars.
“Car five did not break apart and we were able to get off more comfortably. The first two cars were as if they were a piece of paper,” he explained, referring to the damage caused by the crash.
After leaving the train, the passenger highlighted the help received in Urda, where residents and merchants provided assistance to those affected by the accident.
“I am very grateful to the town of Urda, who received us, and to the businesses that donated food to us,” he said.
The young man went on his own to the La Paz Hospital, in the city of Madrid, because he considered that the health centers closest to the scene of the accident could be saturated.
Tribaldos will remain in the emergency area to undergo x-rays that allow confirming the diagnosis of the injuries suffered during the impact.
