Tamika Nottage, 47, was sitting in her bed Monday night holding her one-year-old grandchild when her life came to an end.
Police said a gunman, who was pursuing another man in the area around 10 p.m., fired shots into Nottage’s Wilton Street home, hitting her and ending her life.
The baby was unharmed, but the killer remains at large.
Outside the home yesterday, Nottage’s friend Griselle said she hoped her best friend gets justice.
“She was a God-fearing woman,” she said.
“She loved to shop, loved to travel, loved her children, loved her grandchildren.
“What happened to her, she didn’t deserve, and I ask whoever do it [to] come forward.
“She was a wife, she was a mother, she was a grandmother. She had people who loved her. Just come forward.”
She continued, “She was holding her grandbaby, her one-year-old grandbaby when she got shot.
“She was in her bed and the bullets ripped through the house and hit her … [I don’t] have her no more.”
Outside the residence, family members sat on the porch mourning the loss of Nottage and pointed out several bullet holes around the exterior of the house.
Nottage was also on the campaign team for Centreville MP Jomo Campbell.
At the scene Monday night, Campbell said, “Our hearts go out to the family who are terribly shaken up.
“We would like to take this opportunity to extend to The Bahamas at large a clarion call for peace and unity on our streets.
“There really needs to be more room for conversation and less confrontation.
“I honestly can’t find the words.”
