The government of United Statesthrough the Florida countyreleased an image of the former federal deputy Alexandre Ramagem arrested, wearing a green sweatshirt, but maintained this Tuesday (14) the position of avoiding the disclosure of details about the Bolsonarista’s arrest.
The county stated that Ramagem was detained the day before by ICE (US federal agency responsible for monitoring immigration), but cannot disclose information related to detainees.
A document from the United States Department of Homeland Security shows that the former congressman had an expired visa and is subject to deportation.
In addition to being a deputy, Ramagem was general director of Abin (Brazilian Intelligence Agency) in the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and convicted by STF (Federal Supreme Court) to loss of mandate and 16 years and one month in prison for participating in a coup attempt of State.
The president Lula (PT) said this Tuesday that Ramagem needs return to Brazil to serve sentence.
“I think Ramagem will come here. The right wing here in Brazil is saying that he was arrested for a small fine. No. He was arrested, he was already sentenced to 16 years in this country. He was a convict who is convicted. He has to return to Brazil to serve his sentence”, he declared in an interview with the websites Brasil 247, DCM and Revista Fórum.
Pre-candidate for the Presidency, the senator Flavio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) said the previous day that the American authorities will recognize the validity of Ramagem’s asylum request and understand that the former deputy “is another of the persecuted politicians who are victims of the same absurd narrative that led to the arrest” of his father.
Ramagem is considered a fugitive from Brazilian justice, after leaving Brazil and remaining in the USA, under the government donald trumpsince last year.
According to members of the American government, Ramagem was arrested for immigration reasons.
Already the Federal Police stated that the former deputy was arrested as a result of international police cooperation with US authorities.
Allies of the former deputy refute this statement and say that he was detained due to an alleged minor traffic violation, which culminated in an immigration analysis.
Ramagem fled to the United States after being convicted of participating in the coup plot. According to the director general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues, the former deputy left Brazil clandestinely via the border with Guyana.
