Agents of the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) found, this Tuesday morning, two small planes hidden inside a raided hangar in the province of Guanacaste.
This was one of the 25 sites intervened by the authorities with the aim of dismantling a criminal organization, apparently dedicated to international drug trafficking through the use of clandestine clues.
The seized aircraft correspond to a Cessna 182 Skylanean American four-seat, single-engine light aircraft. Furthermore, a Cessna T182T Turbo Skylanealso single-engine and four-seater.
It is presumed that this group facilitated the entry of drugs into Costa Rica through the southern zone and participated in the logistics to take them to Guanacaste, where they had control of the illegal routes.
The police report indicates that the ships would have taken off with drug shipments from these airfields, destined for the United States, Guatemala and Mexico.
This group is linked to the discovery, in January 2025, of a Cessna-type plane with traces of drugs on a farm in the town of Piedras Blancas in the canton of Nicoya, in Guanacaste.
Although no cargo was located, the residue of illicit substances led authorities to presume that the aircraft, at some point, transported a cache of drugs.
