Paradise Island Life, a new luxury lifestyle magazine inspired by the unique Bahamian destination, has launched with a roster of compelling content and stories that showcase what makes Paradise Island special.
Paradise Island Life magazine shares engaging stories from Paradise Island. The new title debuted with 152 pages of compelling images, insights and interviews by contributors, capturing the natural environment, the community, the culture and the people of paradise.
For the inaugural issue, Paradise Island Life produced a special double-sided magazine. Contemporary artist Lavar Monroe, who headlines the Bahamas Pavilion exhibition at the upcoming Venice Biennale, graces the cover of Paradise Island Arts, while photographer Noe DeWitt evokes the essence of the island in a striking black-and-white image on the Paradise Island Life side.
Andrea Carneiro, editor-in-chief, Paradise Island Life, said the magazine was created out of the desire to showcase and share just how exceptional the destination is with the world.
“Offering a lifestyle and experience that is nothing short of paradise is no small feat, and the stories behind the place deserve to be told and celebrated,” said Carneiro.
For the inaugural issue, one side is dedicated to the lifestyle that defines Paradise Island. Readers have access to the latest news about the destination’s dining, shopping and entertainment scenes. Food coverage examines the island’s culinary landscape, from world-renowned chef Ian Kittichai’s pop-up restaurant to chef Lester Dean’s reinterpretation of classic Bahamian cuisine to the spiny lobster, a seasonal delicacy. The magazine looks into the contribution of James Bond to the glamorous luster of The Bahamas, explores the rising influence of ecotourism, dives into the yachting world with Captain Khalil Bethel and reflects on 20-plus years of the Atlantis Blue Project Foundation, in addition to shopping, beauty and fashion coverage.
Carneiro said each issue of Paradise Island Life magazine will also feature an index of businesses and resources on the island.
Turn the magazine over for Paradise Island Arts — a celebration of island arts and culture. The special issue was created in advance of the Venice Biennale, where The Bahamas will present a national pavilion for the first time in 10 years. The cover story profiles Lavar Munroe, a Bahamian artist who works in multiple mediums and will be featured in Venice alongside another much-beloved Bahamian artist — John Beadle. The arts section also explores the layered and vibrant paintings of local artist Jane Waterous and includes an interview with celebrated Bahamian art collector Dawn Davies and insights from the Antonis, a family of creatives who continue to draw inspiration from their island childhoods. No exploration of Bahamian art and culture would be complete without a deep dive into the meaning, celebration and art form that is Junkanoo.
Paradise Island Life is published by the Paradise Island Tourism Development Association (PITDA).
