One of Dominica’s hallmark cultural celebrations, Jazz ‘n Creole, will celebrate its 15th iteration this year, and the performers’ list has been tolled out, featuring regional artists as well as Dominican favorites.
Discover Dominica Authority, supported by the Government of Dominica as the presenting sponsor, has announced the date of the event as Sunday, May 3, beginning at 2:00 PM at Cabrits National Park in Portsmouth.
A press release by the Authority said that the event continues to play an important role in attracting visitors to the northern region and remains a standout feature on Dominica’s annual events calendar.
It also announced that this year’s roster brings together a dynamic mix of regional, international, and local talent. Headliners include Tarrus Riley & The Blak Soil Band alongside Dean Fraser from Jamaica, as well as The Manhattans from the United States. Representing Dominica are Michele Henderson, Lili Octave, Khadija Joseph, Phael, Janea Jackson, the Riddim Knockarz Band, and the Swingin’ Stars.
Carrying the theme “Afro Elegance,” the event promises an immersive experience spanning both afternoon and evening. Organizers say that attendees can expect a rich blend of jazz and Creole-influenced sounds, complemented by thoughtfully curated cultural elements in an open-air environment.
The release also stated that beyond the main concert, a variety of fringe activities will be hosted throughout Portsmouth and nearby communities. Officials urge guests to take advantage of the island’s diverse offerings, including river excursions, snorkeling and diving adventures, horseback riding, waterfall visits, chocolate tours, rum distillery experiences, and time spent on Dominica’s scenic beaches.
The festival will not only showcase music but also highlight Creole cuisine, local artistry, and a welcoming, family-oriented atmosphere. Patrons are invited to interpret the “Afro Elegance” theme through fashionable attire inspired by cultural heritage.
“This year’s staging continues to position Portsmouth as a strong weekend destination while creating space for Dominican artists to share the stage with internationally recognized acts,” said Marva Williams, CEO of Discover Dominica Authority.
