The Ministry of Police have reinstated afioga Li’o Faataumalama Auava, as an Inspector within the department. Lio was recently cleared of 4 charges relating to Samuelu Su’as false claims that he was a witness to the hit-and-run that killed a teenage boy in April 2021.
He was charged alongside Sam, his wife Sivai Kepi, former Associate Minister of Police, Fepuleai Faimata Su’a, Lise Marie Schmidt and Prime Minister Hon Laaulialemalietoa Leuatea Polataivao Fosi Schmidt.

A copy of the Acting Commissioner’s Memo dated 13th April 2026 states that Lio’s appointment is effective immediately.
In his Memo, Acting Commissioner Leiataua Samuelu Afamasaga directs the Inspector to report to the Officer in Charge of the Training for three days, from 14 – 16 April.
Li’o is to be posted with the Cybercrime Unit of the police department, however, his employment is subject to a probation period of 6 months.

“..during which performance, conduct, and suitability for ongoing service will be assessed.”
Lio’s reinstatement comes after the District Court found him cleared of all charges alongside Hon Prime Minister and former Member of Parliament, Fepuleai Faimata Su’a.
